Google Maps-3 Different Types of Communities

In Social Studies, we learned about the three different types of communities: rural, urban, and suburban. We also went on GoogleEarth to see what these communities look like from a satellite view to really understand the differences.

Now you'll have the opportunity to use Google Maps to look at three different communities and decide whether it is rural, urban, or suburban based on how it looks.

Here is what you need to do:
1. Click on this link:
http://maps.google.com/

2. In the search box type one of these three communities, you'll end up looking at all three of them on the map:

Beatrice Municipal Airport

San Francisco, California

Alexandria, Virginia

3. Click the "Search Maps" button.

4. Then at the top of the map, click on the Satellite button.

5. Use the + and - buttons on the map to zoom in and zoom out on the map.

6. Zoom in and out and decide what type of community you are looking at, you can use your mouse to drag the picture around to see more as you look.

7. Once you have looked at all three of the places on Google Maps, you must post a comment and tell me what type of community each of the places is.

Good Luck and Happy Searching Geographers!
